Dr. Thomas Looke joins K2 as a principal investigator. As attending anesthesiologist and researcher at AdventHealth in Orlando, he has over 20 years experience providing anesthesia to more than 30,000 patients. In addition, he served as the director of a research center overseeing all hospital anesthesia related research projects where he wrote protocols and conducted independent, investigator-initiated projects as well as serving as a local principal investigator in a number of multi-center industry, academic, and government sponsored trials. During this time, he participated in a wide variety of research designed to evaluate and improve perioperative pain control, regional anesthesia medications and techniques, hip fracture anesthesia, invasive electrophysiology, checklist implementation, and end-user medical device evaluation.
Dr. Looke’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Caltech and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Queen’s University in Canada, all of which he completed while on active duty in the U.S. Navy. After leaving the Navy, he and his family moved to Gainesville, Florida for Medical School and Anesthesia Residency at the University of Florida. Upon completion of residency, he and his wife and three children moved to Orlando to begin a second career as an anesthesiologist at AdventHealth.
Tom and his wife, Barri, have been married 38 years and have three adult children, four grandchildren, and a very energetic lab/pit mix named Pongo. An active member in their local and church communities, Tom and Barri volunteer for Servants’ Heart Ministries, an Orlando food bank, where they prepare and deliver grocery boxes to local families in need.
