Memory Loss

Have you ever had a "senior moment"?

Well....I have! The good news is most "senior moments" are just that - a senior moment!! Nothing more to worry about. One reason is that our brain changes and shrinks as we age - just like the rest of our body. Your brain actually shrinks a bit as we age leading to some minor memory impairment which is perfectly normal and a consequence of aging.

But, ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE also begins as "SENIOR MOMENTS" and how do we tell them apart?

One way is with memory testing - like the free memory test we give in our office. These memory tests are very helpful, especially if we have a "baseline". Schedule your baseline today!

Biomarkers

Innovative translational research uses biomarkers to accelerate or aid in diagnosis or monitoring and provide insight into “personalized” medicine.

A biomarker is a quantifiable biological parameter (such as blood pressure, heart rate, blood and genetic test, and x-rays) that are measured and evaluated over time as an indicator of normal biological, pathogenic, or pharmacologic responses to a therapeutic intervention.

Alzheimer's Disease

There are currently over 5 million Americans with Alzheimer's Disease. Alzheimer's Disease usually begins with barely noticeable, short-term memory problems that progressively worsens over time. It occurs in the brain and can have genetic causes. People typically develop AD in their 60s to 80s and we do not currently have a cure (there has been some exciting recent research on prevention of Alzheimer's Disease with diet and exercise that we will cover in another section). It is a devastating illness for both the family and the caregiver as the disease worsens. As doctors, we want to see people as early as possible in the disease.

If you or a loved one is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, see how we can help.

Parkinson's Disease

Nearly one million people in the U.S. are living with Parkinson's disease (PD). This number is expected to rise to 1.2 million by 2030. Parkinson's is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer's disease. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with PD, learn about our new clinical research study.

NASH or Fatty Liver Disease

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, NASH is the most common chronic liver disorder in industrialized countries, affecting around 15% of the US adult population. NASH is a silent disease, because most patients with NASH do not feel any symptoms. This is why many patients do not know they have NASH, until the disease has progressed to very advanced stages. Sometimes patients experience pain in the upper right part of their abdomen. Learn how you can get a no-cost FibroScan to see if you have NASH or Fatty Liver disease.
